He's a 14-year-old boy, grandson of Rick, whom he uses frequently in his adventures. Because of these trips, he has made it enormously paranoid, even in day-to-day situations. He has a moderate intelligence, is of short stature for his age and has an obsessive interest in sex. As the series progresses, it takes on more value when facing monsters and extraterrestrials. With his low intellectual level he serves as a counterpoint to the intelligence of his grandfather Rick, which makes him the ideal companion for adventures.
